AMMF European Website

The Client

Founded in 2002, AMMF was the world’s first charity dedicated solely to cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Today, AMMF remains the UK’s only cholangiocarcinoma charity, now working nationally and across Europe, as well as actively collaborating globally.

The Brief

As a pioneer in its field, AMMF wanted to extend its influence internationally, raising awareness, supporting research and providing information on cholangiocarcinoma to fellow professionals and patients in the continent. To do this effectively they asked us to design and build a multi-language website that could be accessed and read by visitors from Europe in their native languages.

The Proposal

As we have been working with AMMF for many years, we are well acquainted with their work and well placed to help them achieve their educational aims and objectives.

In our experience multi-language websites should be purpose designed from the outset rather than as an extension of an existing website. We were therefore pleased to be involved in this project from the beginning and see it through from concept to completion. Our recommendation was that the design and construction of the website be undertaken in progressive stages. First we looked at the site plan and design format. This served to ensure easy navigation optimised for accessing the site in multiple languages.

Then in consultation with the client and other stakeholders, key information was selected from the main AMMF website and populated the English version of the site, which served as a master. Once this was signed off it was translated into 8 languages and used to populate the other versions of the site, which could be accessed from the home page with click-throughs identifiable by national flags.

Finally, the content was added to a custom-designed WordPress website, editable by the client. As an additional service Simpsons provide site hosting and ongoing service support, as we do for the main AMMF site, which also features a shop and forum.

Integrated language switcher, letting visitors switch languages on all site pages.

The Result

“Simpson’s were a delight to work with for the AMMF European Cholangiocarcinoma Website project. It has been a privilege to work with them on this project, that had great complexities in providing a valuable resource for patients, caregivers, and health care providers in 8 different languages! We thank them for their continued partnership with AMMF.”
